Custom Deck Builder in Lake St. Louis, MO: Make Outdoor Living Your Own

A deck should make everyday time outdoors easier, whether that means hosting neighbors for dinner or finding a quiet place to enjoy the evening. The most successful designs consider how people move, gather, and relax, not simply how much space can fit behind the house.

Chesterfield Fence & Deck brings custom deck construction to Lake St. Louis, MO, with personalized planning, established craftsmanship, and materials suited to different tastes. We help homeowners turn outdoor ideas into spaces that complement their homes and routines.

Start With the Experience You Want Outside

In a community shaped by lakes, neighborhood amenities, and outdoor recreation, it makes sense to give your own backyard equal attention. But a deck near Lake Saint Louis Boulevard may call for a different layout than one tucked into a more secluded residential lot. The right approach starts with the home itself.

For frequent gatherings, consider where guests will sit, how food will move between the kitchen and dining area, and whether there’s room to step away from the table. For a quieter retreat, think about the direction of the afternoon sun and what you want to see from your favorite chair.

Our designers use these conversations to shape a custom plan rather than asking you to adapt your lifestyle to a standard layout.

The Details That Change How a Deck Feels

Before settling on dimensions, picture the space in use. A few thoughtful choices can make a noticeable difference:

• Leave room around furniture. Chairs need space to slide back, and guests need comfortable paths between doors, stairs, and seating areas.
• Consider views in both directions. The deck should look appealing from your home’s windows, while railings should suit the views you want to enjoy from outside.
• Make the transition feel natural. Board colors and railing finishes can connect the new structure visually with your home’s exterior.
• Think about evenings. Available lighting options can help define gathering areas and illuminate steps when the sun goes down.
• Plan for upkeep. Your willingness to maintain a natural surface should influence material selection just as much as its initial appearance.

These decisions are particularly valuable when you want a deck that feels welcoming on ordinary weekdays, not only during special occasions.

Find a Finish That Fits Your Priorities

Material choice shapes the look and long-term care of your outdoor space. If you love the warmth of genuine wood, premium red cedar offers natural grain and traditional character, with periodic, minor upkeep needed to maintain its finish.

For a lower-maintenance alternative, VEKAdeck vinyl decking provides a splinter-free surface and resistance to moisture and insects. Millboard composite decking offers realistic timber-inspired texture through a wood-free composition, appealing to homeowners who want a wood-like aesthetic without routine staining.

Cedar, vinyl, and aluminum railing options offer additional ways to personalize the design. Rather than selecting materials in isolation, we help you consider how decking, railings, and available lighting choices work together.

See Your Ideas Take Shape Before Construction

You don’t need to arrive with a finished plan. During an in-home consultation, we discuss how you want to use the space and review your property’s layout. Our design team then prepares customized CAD drawings to help you visualize the proposal.

You can compare materials and finishes in our showroom before making final selections. Our engineering professionals consider structural requirements and help coordinate applicable permitting needs; our trained installation team then builds according to the approved project plan.

The result is a coordinated path from early ideas to professional deck installation, with room for informed decisions along the way.
